Many people think dolphins never sleep but in fact that is not true. Dolphins sleep with half of their brain and opposite eye still alert. They rest this way so they don’t drown since dolphins have to be awake to breathe. Plus, they will still be alert to notice any predators that might try to harm them. They rest this way for about 2 hours and than swap sides.

Did you know that dolphins don’t need to drink water? Dolphins love fish and squid and these food sources contain lots of water so the dolphins gets plenty of water from it’s prey. Although dolphins don’t really need to consume much water since they don’t lose water by sweating like we do.

Wild dolphins can live for quite a long time. Bottlenose dolphins can live up to forty years in the wild and Orcas can live up to seventy years. So it’s best for dolphins to stay in the wild as they always tend to live longer in the wild than in captivity.

Do Dolphins Communicate?

Dolphins do have unique ways to communicate. They use a variety of sounds including clicks, whistles and squeaks.
